Medicaid Changes to Dental Insurance

Medicaid Changes Coming Soon!

Medicaid dental insurance is changing across Arkansas. With these changes, we know you may feel uncertain about your new insurance plans. But don’t worry. We’re here to help you through this transition!

What’s changing?

Medicaid is moving from a single managed care option to two: Delta Dental Smiles and MCNA. Soon, you will be notified of your new managed care option.
Once you receive your new provider, it is not set in stone. If you want to switch, you can do so from January 1 – February 1. In addition, you will also be assigned to a dentist on your Medicaid card. This is called your Dental Home.

Does this mean I’m forced to see a new dentist?

Absolutely not! You can still see any dentist that is in-network with your plan, not just the one listed on your card. Plus, Groovy Smiles Pediatric Dentistry accepts both Medicaid plans. So if you’re already a patient with Groovy Smiles, you are still a part of the Groovy Smiles family!
If you have any questions or concerns about your insurance or would like to request an appointment, contact us today. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Dental plaque can be seen on teeth after one to two days with no brushing. Calculus is plaque that has hardened on the teeth and typically occurs within approximately 12-18 days. Calculus cannot be removed by brushing alone and will take the assistance of a dental professional to adequately remove. Consistent appointments ensure we catch any inflammation of the gums, tooth movement, jaw irregularities, and more.

How much toothpaste should I use?

How much toothpaste should I use?

For ages 6 months to 3 years, you should place a “smear” layer on your child’s toothbrush. Dr. Forrester and his staff will demonstrate this for you in office at the time of your dental exam and cleaning. After brushing, make sure to wipe out your child’s mouth with a washcloth to avoid ingesting too much fluoride.

For ages 3 to 6, a “pea” size amount of toothpaste will suffice. After brushing, make sure your child spits out any excess toothpaste.
